Arrived

Well, I’ve arrived in Quito! Besides my new Wal-Mart watch breaking (which I interpreted as a symbol for the inevitable decay of my western obsession with punctuality), the transit was a breeze. I had my first “conversation” in Spanish with my driver from the airport. He graciously worked through my excessive use of “yo” conjugations and incorrect concordancia. The hostel I’m staying in is within the most touristy part of Quito (known as “gringolandia”) so, for better or for worse, I can speak English with the other residents. Getting ready now for a day of orientation tomorrow.
